Hero Verse #1: Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:9a). When Joshua became the new leader of God’s people, he was en-COURAGE-d to have COURAGE for the important job God gave him. We also need courage for the work God has given each of us. Look at what we can learn from what comes before and after this command. God’s word (“ This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night” (1:8a)) and God’s presence with us (“…for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (1:9b)) should always inspire courage in our hearts. Our courage will grow as we grow in God’s word and as we step out trusting He is with us through Jesus Christ. So if you want to live a heroic life for God, “be strong and courageous”!
